Sunderland fans all say the same thing as 2023/24 season ends with defeat

Sunderland concluded an uninspiring season with a likewise performance in the 2-0 defeat vs Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

Sunderland’s 2023/24 season is finally over.

It’ll bring a huge sigh of relief to the fans who’ve wanted this season to have finished long ago, and the summer ahead to get underway.

Sunderland are set to hire a new manager and they can push on with that now.

And a new manager with new ideas is very much needed after a rather dire performance against Sheffield Wednesday, who secured their safety in style following an impressive away performance.

Sunderland fans say the same thing as 2023/24 season ends

There’s a lot of issues for Sunderland to fix right now.

Aside from the club’s managerial appointment, which simply has to be the right appointment following the Michael Beale fiasco, there’s the issue of the playing squad.

Saturday’s performance against Sheffield Wednesday brutally showcased the lack of balance and quality throughout the pitch.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman will have plenty of pressure on his shoulders to get things right this summer, and so too Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.

Here’s what Sunderland fans had to say about the 2023/24 season coming to an end, with their team finishing in 16th…

@ColinHo63925051: Awful end to an awful season.

@cannylad53: The season promised so much but has turned into a disaster because someone decided it was a good idea to remove the manager. Maybe time for that person to be replaced.

@Kingy78_: The decision makers at #safc are an absolute embarrassment for what they have dished up this season. Walking out of The Den in December we were points off 4th and a play off place. They surrendered our season in January and recruitment hasn’t even been Sunday league standard.

@wadey16: Three big decisions have cost us this season, Mowbray sacking, appointing Beale and keeping Dodds on till the end of the season. The ‘Ownership Group’ and Speakman have to take responsibility. It all filters down to the players who of course are partly to blame as well.

@Evs_Dubai: A performance to sum up a season. Anyone who’s parted with time and money to support this team – from match day to season tickets to SAFC Live – has been taken for a joyless, fun-less ride. Mismanagement, from the top down – so bad it’s bordering on negligence

@GrahamNPaterson: No point getting angry or annoyed at today, the season ended in December when the club made the huge error in sacking Mowbray, since then the players have just wanted to get away on their summer holidays.

@juaneddy1: Absolutely pathetic. Embarrassing and an insult to the legacy of the club.
