Dillon Gabriel and Oklahoma had their way with Nebraska in 2022, pounding the Cornhuskers in Lincoln for a dominant 49-14 victory. However, while the game was still close in the first quarter, Gabriel was incredibly impressed with the environment.
He recently sat down with Bussin’ With The Boys and discussed what it was like playing at Memorial Stadium.
“Nebraska’s special. I played there. That place is crazy,” Dillon Gabriel said. “I remember the first third down there. I’ve played in some [crazy] environments. It was probably up there with the Texas game. But like that first third down, I remember looking at my receiver in the eyes, and he’s like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”
Nebraska jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Oklahoma battled back to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. In total, Oklahoma went on to score 49 straight points, before Nebraska scored late to cut the lead to 49-14.
Despite the blowout, Dillon Gabriel was impressed with the crowd.
“I think the craziest stadiums are when you can’t see out of it. That, to me, is like, you’re in it. When you can’t see out, it’s like, ‘Bro, you’re in this bitch. You better come ready to play,'” Gabriel said. “I remember that first drive, they end up going up 7-0. And then we had the first drive, we went 3-and-out. But dude, it was unreal.”
Gabriel is now at Oregon, after previously spending time at UCF and OU. He should be one of the top quarterbacks in the country in 2024.
Dillon Gabriel on playing for Dan Lanning: ‘It’s been refreshing’
Veteran college football quarterback and new Oregon QB1 Dillon Gabriel is already a huge fan of Ducks head coach Dan Lanning.
During the sit-down interview with the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Gabriel was asked about the change in head coach that came with his transfer. He says Lanning is a real bright spot.
“It’s been refreshing I think. A young coach who gets it and is challenging us but also not demeaning, not saying I’ve had that experience in my time,” said Gabriel, who then noted Lanning’s mindset.
“I think it’s just been refreshing, you know. I think he’s very innovative in the way he thinks, whether it’s scheme or even just how we practice, what we do, how we do what we do. I think that’s very important, because a lot of people are doing the same things, but trying to find your edge. And I think that he’s done a really good job of that just within my four months of being here.”
