'Made contact': Chelsea have now enquired about 'special' player's wages ahead of potential move - Romano

Chelsea already seem to be working on one transfer ahead of the summer window.

The Blues could enter the market for a new central defender after Thiago Silva confirmed that he is leaving the club at the end of the season.

Trevoh Chalobah could also be sold for financial reasons, but that would still leave Mauricio Pochettino with Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana.

However, Badiashile and Fofana have had quite a few injury problems since arriving at Chelsea, with the latter yet to even kick a ball this season.

The above is why the club may have to bring in a centre-back this summer.

Chelsea want to know about central defender’s wage demands

In terms who could come in, Chelsea have been linked with several names.

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo is the latest, with his contract about to expire.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have already asked about his wages, though the Blues could face competition for his signature.

On The Here We Go Podcast, the Italian journalist said: “Tosin Adarabioyo, who’s going to leave Fulham, there are conversations with Newcastle, also Chelsea are informed of the situation of Tosin.

“So both clubs made contact to be informed on the wages, so the salary and all this kind of stuff for Tosin Adarabioyo, who’s going to leave Fulham at the end of the season. So keep an eye on these two clubs, Newcastle, because Eddie Howe really appreciates the player, and also Chelsea.”

What would Tosin Adarabioyo bring to Chelsea?

Height. Adarabioyo stands at 6 ft 5 and really utilises that when competing for aerial balls.

As per FBref, the Fulham star has ranked in the 89th percentile for aerials won among central defenders over the last year.

His manager Marco Silva has also described him as a “special player”.

Adarabioyo is not the kind of signing that is going to transform Chelsea into title challengers. However, on a free transfer and as a squad player, the former Manchester City man could be smart business for any club this summer.
