'Right up that street': Steve Clarke told to take Celtic 'bright spark' to the Euros with Scotland

With Celtic still in command at the top of the table and in the Scottish Cup Final, there is still plenty to play for in terms of silverware for the players this season.

For some Celtic players like Nicolas Kuhn, winning a medal this season will be the first major honour of their careers. For others like Callum McGregor, if the league and cup are wrapped up, it will add to the many medals they have already picked up during their time at the club.

But silverware isn’t the only thing the Celtic players have got to play for. With the Euros coming up, there is an opportunity to go and represent their country in Germany at the tournament.

And Steve Clarke has been urged to take another Celtic player to the competition with him.

‘Any manager’ would love James Forrest in their team

BBC pundit, Stephen Craigan, has urged the Scotland boss to take James Forrest with him after the Celtic winger’s brilliant performances over the last few games.

Forrest has really stepped up in three big games for Celtic and Craigan reckons that if Clarke wants to give himself a different option, Forrest must be on that plane in the summer.

Craigan said [Scottish Football Podcast], “He’s been excellent and he’s someone who wouldn’t say supporters or forgot about but it’s almost as if he’s been in cold storage for such a long time.

“He’s such a bright spark. He’s got such a connection with the club and the fans. He knows what it means to play in big games, to score and big games and to be the key player not only just for Celtic but I tipped him out to go to the Euros this summer.

“I think he’s a player who Scotland need because he can give them a little options to change the shape. I mean wingback is not a special position for a Scotland player but he can play there if need be

“If Scotland needs a goal and they need wingers which they don’t tend to have in their squad James Forrest is right up that street.

“He knows international football so I think any manager would love a James Forrest in their team.”

Personally, I don’t think Clarke will take Forrest with him to the Euros. The Scotland manager tends to be loyal to the players who have been successful for him and, unfortunately, the Hoops winger has not been one of those.

Yes, Forrest has played his part for Clarke and Scotland before but his latest purple patch of form may well be too little too late for the Celtic legend as it has been almost three years since his last appearance in the dark blue jersey.
