Jurgen Klopp explains what he wants Harvey Elliott to do more at Liverpool next season

Jurgen Klopp has explained what he is looking forward to seeing more often from Harvey Elliott at Liverpool next season.

Liverpool were back to their very best against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. After a terrible few weeks this was the most convincing we have Jurgen Klopp’s side play in a while.

It should be no coincidence that this was also one of the first games in which Harvey Elliott returned to the starting XI.

Out of Liverpool’s last six matches in the Premier League, Liverpool have picked up seven points when Harvey Elliott has started the game, and just one point when he didn’t.

In that time, he has also registered three goal contributions in three starts for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp on what he wants to see Harvey Elliott doing more often

It’s a small sample size, but there is an argument to be had that when Elliott is on the pitch, Liverpool have more control.

He also provides more of a creative threat, and as he has shown a goal-scoring threat as well.

Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the 21-year-old midfielder.

“Oh yes. That’s the typical thing.” Jurgen Klopp replied to BBC MOTD after he was asked about Elliott’s comments on how he felt he hasn’t played enough this season.

Klopp then went onto explain what he wanted to see Elliott doing more often next season.

“Did Harvey Elliott play enough this season? I’m not sure. That’s up to me, it’s a little bit of moments like this and he was outstanding, outstanding and he has to be as dominant as he was today. Fantastic player, what a goal. I love it. All good. I will watch that definitely and enjoy it.”

Harvey Elliott’s numbers against Tottenham

Elliott’s stunning goal against Tottenham means he now has 13 goal contributions this season. That’s the joint most alongside Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool’s midfielders.

Overall, Elliott’s performance was really good on Sunday. He created the most chances and won the most recoveries while he was on the pitch according to Anfield Index.

This is definitely what we want to see him doing more often.
