‘Involved in everything’: Jermain Defoe hails Chelsea duo after 5-0 win over West Ham

Cole Palmer FC step aside because Chelsea are now starting to stick their chest out and showcase their true worth.

Mauricio Pochettino has had to rely on one man for most of the season to get him through games and many, many tough moments.

But Chelsea, in recent weeks, have had players left, right and centre stepping forward and proving why they deserve to be starting.

That was showcased on Thursday night during the win over Tottenham and on Sunday when five goals were scored past West Ham United.

Jermain Defoe did highlight Cole Palmer’s display and how he was ‘involved in everything’ during the match, as he told Premier League Productions (05/05/24 at 2:55 pm).

But he wasn’t the only one who caught the eye because Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson (2) also got on the scoresheet.

For the second week running, Gallagher has found the back of the net, after his stunning curling effort at Villa Park.

But the England star’s latest goal and finish impressed Defoe because he labelled it ‘unbelievable’ and how he knew he had it in his locker.

That’s the 25-year-old’s fifth goal of the season, added to his seven assists, as he is becoming an important player for Pochettino.

Conor Gallagher helps Chelsea beat West Ham United

“I am going to say yes,” responded Defoe on if Gallagher had this type of finish in his locker.

“You speak about that man Cole Palmer here. This pass here (for the build-up to Gallagher’s goal). People talk about breaking lines and how one pass can cut three or four players out of the game.

“But that finish, it’s not easy from Gallagher. You see players sometimes it goes over the bar. But it’s such a controlled finish. You see the pass here from Palmer. You can’t give him that much time and that quality of player. He can get those sort of passes. This finish from Gallagher is unbelievable and Cole Palmer has been involved in everything. He has got his goal. He is rotating. Got that freedom to get on the ball.”

Chelsea should offer Conor Gallagher a new contract

There has been a lot of talk about Gallagher’s future and how he could be leaving in the summer.

If Chelsea decide to go down that road, then it will prove to be a huge mistake because he is growing under Pochettino.

TBR have been told that Gallagher has concerns over his boyhood club offering him a new deal and Tottenham are seemingly waiting in the wings.

One thing you shouldn’t devalue in football is players wanting to be at clubs, regardless of their struggle, and that’s the case with Gallagher and Chelsea.
