'He has': Pundit says Arsenal player with seven league starts this season has the passing ability of Jorginho

Perry Groves believes that Arsenal have a player who actually has the passing ability of Jorginho, and has given the Gunners a different dimension in recent weeks.

Arsenal certainly appear to be determined to do all they can to push Manchester City all the way in the Premier League title race, with the Gunners beating Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday to ensure that they would remain at the summit at the end of the weekend.

Arsenal have had one hiccup in the Premier League since the turn of the year, but there are no signs of the wobble which cost them against City last season.

And they have received a recent boost, with Thomas Partey returning to the starting lineup after missing much of the campaign due to injury.

Perry Groves says Thomas Partey is as good at passing as Jorginho after Arsenal win

Partey has missed 19 games this season, and in his absence, Arsenal have largely relied on Jorginho and Declan Rice to anchor their midfield over the course of the campaign.

Jorginho has proved a real point since arriving at Arsenal almost 18 months ago, but speaking on the Premier League All Access podcast, Perry Groves has suggested that the Ghanaian is actually better on the ball than many realise.

“Partey gives us a different dimension because he’s got the passing ability of Jorginho, but he’s got the physicality then to get himself back,” he said.

“He has [got the passing ability of Jorginho]. He passes it through people, he passes it through in between people.”

Mikel Arteta faces tough decision on Ghanaian this summer

Jorginho appeared to be such an inspired signing for Arsenal, with his ability to use the ball so well, and the fact that he frees Rice up to roam around the pitch.

Interestingly, Whoscored shows that there is very little between Partey and Jorginho when it comes to their key passes and average passes per game, with Partey slightly ahead in both areas right now.

Partey is probably never going to be a player Mikel Arteta can fully rely on over a season. He has had a number of injuries; this will be the third time in four years at the Emirates that he will have made fewer than 25 appearances in a Premier League season.

There is speculation that Partey could leave Arsenal this summer. But clearly, he is proving how important he can be for the Gunners when he is available and at his best.
