Prince George seemingly 'revealed Archie's name' months before he was born

Today, May 6, Prince Archie celebrates his 5th birthday. The public were told his name after he was born, however, cheeky Prince George may have revealed it months before without anyone knowing.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in May 2019. However, as of 2024, the couple has officially decided to use the last name of Sussex for both of their children. Although his name was announced to the world after his birth, many think Prince George may have given it away months before, by telling a passer-by his name was in fact, Archie.

Prince George ‘revealed’ Archie’s name months before he was born

In 2019, before Archie was born, Prince George was out on a dog walk with his sister, Princess Charlotte, and his grandmother, Carole Middleton, when they came across a passer-by.

As the future King went to stroke her dog, the woman asked his name, although she already knew. However, he told her he was called Archie.

“George started stroking my dog. Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it,” the woman who did not wish to be named told The Sun in January 2019.

“To my astonishment he said ‘I’m called Archie’ with a big smile on his face. I don’t know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it’s lovely,” she revealed.

At the time, it was thought it may just be a cute nickname Prince William and Kate Middleton had given their son, but when Archie’s name was revealed, fans started to link the two together. Although that could very well have been the case, others thought the cheeky chap may have been ‘testing the public’ with his future cousin’s name.

King Charles ‘expected to wish Archie Happy Birthday privately’

As of the time of writing, the royal family has not issued a social media post to wish Archie a Happy Birthday. Despite this, it’s been said King Charles is expected to make a phone call to his grandson.

“King Charles dislikes new technology but is desperate to keep in touch with his grandchildren on the other side of the Atlantic so he will certainly call Harry and wish Archie Happy Birthday,” royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror.

“Charles been asking about video calling, but according to his aides, he’s uncomfortable with the idea. If he makes an ordinary telephone call to Harry it means he can have a quick word with Archie without the need to talk to Meghan, a prospect that fills him with dread,” the expert claims.

Prince Harry will be making a visit to England this month, where he is expected to be making a visit to see his father, who announced his cancer diagnosis earlier this year. After the announcement, the Duke got on a plane to England but only met his father for a brief period of time.

Archie, Lilibet, or Meghan will not be joining Harry on the trip home, as he attends a service for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
