‘Going to be some pain’: Zak Brown shares new tattoo plans after Lando Norris’s victory in Miami

Lando Norris’s unbelievable win for McLaren at the Miami Grand Prix spells a new tattoo for team CEO Zak Brown.

It’s a tradition that started with Daniel Ricciardo at the Italian Grand Prix back in 2021 and although Zak Brown insists it wasn’t part of a bet related to whether he won a race with McLaren, the 52-year-old did get inked in celebration of his result.

In the Formula 1 Post Race Show, Brown shared his latest plans to add another tattoo to his Formula 1-related collection after Lando Norris recorded an extraordinary win.

Zak Brown set for new tattoo after Lando Norris victory in Miami

The story begins with Daniel Ricciardo who joined McLaren back in 2021 after two seasons with Renault.

Ricciardo made a wager with his former team principal Cyril Abiteboul at the French team that if he scored two podiums, he would have to get a tattoo.

The Australian managed that feat before heading to McLaren and his race victory in Italy the following year appeared to inspire Brown to get a tattoo himself.

Brown ended up with a tattoo of the outline of the Monza but explained to News.com.au that it wasn’t as a result of any agreement with Ricciardo.

He said: “Sometimes you have to face your greatest fears, which I’ve done.

“It actually came about through the Grand Prix Trust with Sky, where a team boss gets nominated each year to do something that terrifies them.

“Toto nominated me last year, and needles sufficiently terrify me. So in trying to think through what would be kind of fun and genuine, and properly terrifying, I came up with the idea of getting a tattoo.

“Then obviously, given that Daniel himself is a fan of tattoos, and with him winning recently, I thought maybe we can tie the two together and have him come to visit and hold my hand!”

Zak Brown’s next tattoo style decided after Lando Norris win

Speaking about the 24-year-old race winner, Brown said: “He’s just getting better and better and just very calm in the race car, didn’t make any mistakes and I just think he’s going to go from strength to strength now because now he is a Grand Prix winner.

“As you know from winning races, once you’ve done it, there’s an inner belief that just goes to the next level. I think watch this space.”

Brown was then asked what tattoo he was getting after Norris’s win and replied: “Yeah, I guess it’s Miami!

“I wish it was a shorter circuit, Monza was not too painful but this has a few more corners! That’s going to be some pain.”

McLaren heading to Imola with renewed sense of hope

Zak Brown would have been pleased with McLaren’s start to the season but not blown away.

They took huge strides forward last season to be the best of the rest behind Red Bull at several Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s step forward over the winter meant they’ve been the third-fastest team for much of this year.

However, Norris and Oscar Piastri both showed in Miami that their new upgrades might have closed the gap to the top two teams and Brown will be happy to agree to another tattoo if these results continue.

Piastri produced a ‘magical’ race according to Mark Webber despite not finishing in the points.

While Max Verstappen was happy for Norris immediately after the race, he’ll be less enthused if the Brit starts stringing together a run of strong results.
