It is now coming up to decision time for many of the players out on loan from Leeds United.
Of the eight first team players who left Elland Road temporarily last summer, only Luis Sinisterra and Robin Koch have so far earned permanent moves.
There have been reports both Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca could return to Leeds at the end of the season with their futures unclear, while the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Jack Harrison, Max Wober and Diego Llorente are certainly not guaranteed permanent moves either.
Elsewhere, Sam Greenwood also appears to be on his way back to Leeds after his loan spell at Middlesbrough based on what teammate Hayden Hackney commented on his Instagram.
Lewis Bate, Luke Ayling and Ian Poveda have all seemingly played their final games for Leeds with their respective contracts all set to expire. Cody Drameh is another who falls under that category.
Brenden Aaronson doing all he can to earn permanent Leeds exit
For many players after relegation, the decision to leave on loan was effectively seen as an opportunity to resurrect their careers and transfer value.
However, it would be fair to say it has not quite worked like that. Many of them have endured difficult seasons, perhaps none more so than Aaronson.
Leeds spent £25 million to sign Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg almost exactly two years ago, but after a dismal campaign, was sent to Union Berlin in the hope he would rediscover that old form.
However, the 23-year-old has endured another difficult season and it has been said Leeds could make a loss of up to £15 million if they were to sell him this summer.
On the other hand, according to US outlet American Soccer Now, Aaronson finally appears to have found some form, as the business end of the season approaches.
With Union 3-0 down at half-time to Bochum, Aaronson was brought on at half-time in an attempt to get his side back in the game, and he was so close to doing so.
Aaronson was described as the ‘best player on the field’ after his introduction, playing a key part in all of Union’s three goals, including an assist for the third, as they were narrowly beaten 4-3.
This is another clear sign his form has improved considerably in recent months, with those two goals he scored across February and March clearly a big weight off his shoulders.
He has already suggested he would like to remain at Union and so clearly he is doing everything he can to ensure they at least attempt to re-sign him from Leeds.
