'Not an option': Journalist says there is 'no chance' Pep Guardiola leaves Man City to join UCL giants

It has been reported that Pep Guardiola will not leave Manchester City to join a certain European giant.

Whether Guardiola renews his contract beyond 2025 or decides to prolong his spell at City is perhaps the biggest uncertainty at the club.

So far, there is no indication to suggest that the £378,846-a-week man has made a conclusive decision about his future, as his focus seems to be solely on ensuring his team win the double this season.

In December, journalist Guillem Balague claimed that Pep Guardiola could decide to manage England at the end of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

However, only time will tell whether Guardiola remains motivated to further dominate English football with City.

In February, the Catalan tactician told ESPN Brasil that his next goal is to manage an international team and experience coaching a side during tournaments like the World Cup, the Euros or Copa America.

However, Guardiola did emphasise that he is unsure when he plans to take on such a challenge in his career.

Journalist: Guardiola will not leave City to manage European giants

If the two-time treble-winning manager does decide to manage another club after the Sky Blues, one can imagine that teams will queue up around Europe for his signature.

In football, even some of the best managers experience a decline after a point.

Jose Mourinho is the prime example.

From the 2015/2016 onwards where he was sacked by Chelsea mid-season, Mourinho underwent a dip in his stock.

The Portuguese legend managed to redeem himself at Roma, leading them to lift the Europa Conference League in 2022.

But Mourinho is no longer viewed as one of the elite coaches in the game as he once was alongside Guardiola, Ancelotti and Klopp.

The City boss, however, seems to age like fine wine as a coach and as a result, most teams in Europe would flock to his doorstep to appoint him.

Bayern Munich could be one of those teams but Sky Germany journalist Kerry Hau has revealed that there is “no chance” that Pep Guardiola will return to the club in 2025.

The journalist revealed that Guardiola’s consulting agency, Tacticgrup said, “Pep has FC Bayern in his heart, but he does not want to leave Manchester City this summer. He is very happy and has a contract until 2025. A return to FC Bayern is not an option.”

Likelier for the Catalan to sign a new contract at City

In our view, it would be likelier for Pep Guardiola to renew his contract at Manchester City than return to Bayern.

If that was not the case, Guardiola’s representatives would not have ruled out a return to the German giants one year in advance.

At the Etihad Stadium, the Spaniard is continuing to dominate and in the summer, it was claimed in April that he has been given the green light to invest £200 million to overhaul his squad.

With the Manchester City players evidently not worn down by his demands, Pep Guardiola would perhaps have more of an incentive to further solidify his legacy in England than return to Bayern.

The German side do not look as well-placed at City to dominate across all fronts as well.
