Dillon Gabriel’s Heisman Trophy Odds Among Nation’s Best

Last year Oregon was fortunate enough to have one of the best quarterbacks in the country leading its offense. While Bo Nix didn’t win the Heisman, he made the trip to New York as one of the four finalists.

This year it would appear Oregon’s offense is in good hands once again. The Ducks went into the transfer portal looking for Nix’s successor and came up with Dillon Gabriel. The former Oklahoma starter entered the portal en route to his third college team. However this transfer brought him much closer to his hometown of Mililani (Hawaii) to finish his career.

Oregon has a ton of returning production on offense. Nearly the entire offensive line is back. Several starting receivers, tight ends and running backs from last year’s squad are also back. That gives Gabriel a ton of weapons at his disposal.

It would appear that’s enough for Vegas to like his chances at a Heisman trophy. An updated post-Spring look at the odds from DraftKings Sportsbook have Gabriel right behind two other quarterbacks for the award.

Gabriel comes in at +1000, barely behind Georgia’s Carson Beck and Texas’s Quinn Ewers. Both coming in at +900.

Gabriel is entering the sixth season of his career at his third school. That kind of experience, especially for transfers at a new program, has been a nice mix for players, including Heisman contenders, as of late, which is why his fit in Eugene could be another great one to meet that criteria.

With him throwing for a career-high of 3,660 yards along with 30 touchdowns last year, not to mention a dozen more scores on the ground, Gabriel is among the best all-time in yardage and touchdowns in college football. He’ll now, after transferring as the No. 6 QB per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players, take the spot of Bo Nix and look to keep the Ducks in contention as they move into the Big Ten.
