Dermatologist blows the lid off overnight acne treatments - and you may be disappointed

Social media is full of tips to achieve clear skin overnight – but does it really work? A dermatologist on TikTok has weighed in on the popular claim.

If popping the zit was your definition of a quick fix – don’t! Skin experts have warned of serious consequences of the common practice, including death in some rare instances.

Dermatologist reveals if you can get rid of pimples overnight

Dr. Aamna Adel took to TikTok to address an infamous social media claim that acne can be treated overnight. The dermatologist brushes it off as a myth.

She says no food, drink, or medicine could cure your pimples overnight – it’s simply unrealistic. Similarly, there isn’t any hack or product that can work miracles to help you have clear skin in a couple of hours.

While popping the acne – a method experts warn against – may help you get rid of it, you will suffer from scarring and other infections.

The dermatologist isn’t against natural treatments such as home remedies, but she dislikes that they are sold as an overnight treatment for better skin.

According to Dr. Aamna Adel, neither pimple patches nor spot treatment can clear your skin in a short span of time as content creators claim.

What actually helps

No, applying Vicks VapoRub on the pimple will not fix it magically. In fact, it can make it worse by causing irritation and scarring, says the dermatologist.

Doing the below helps though:

  • Using Differin.
  • Treating spot with pimple patches.
  • Use a clean towel after every cleanse.
  • Moisture your face twice a day.
  • Use a salicylic acid cleanser.
  • Always wear an oil-free/non-comedogenic SPF.
