German authorities: Extremists seek to create unrest ahead of Euros

German security authorities warned that Islamist extremists are trying to stir up unrest in Germany ahead of the Euro 2024 football tournament in the country.

Calls for terrorist violence, which were recently published by the Islamic State – Khorasan Province, a regional branch of the jihadist group Islamic State, are "part of the ongoing propaganda campaign to stir up unrest and trigger individual perpetrators," security sources said on Tuesday.

The group had previously published a video game-style image showing a man in a stadium with an automatic weapon.

Similar publications were made last month in connection with Champions League matches and before the Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in March.
