Meghan Markle's popularity at risk since Charles became king - but other royals on top

A royal expert and correspondent has revealed Meghan Markle’s popularity is at risk, as illustrated by a poll on the royals.

It’s been an incredibly busy twelve months for the British Royal family, including the delivery of news that has shaken the nation. The public recently celebrated the first anniversary of the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, which took place on Saturday, May 6th 2023, at Westminster Abbey. The monumental occasion marked the first Coronation in almost seven decades. Since then, everything from the king’s and Kate Middleton‘s cancer diagnosis has stirred major upset, and now a poll has revealed which of the royals is least popular after a whirlwind period…

Meghan Markle’s popularity hasn’t risen at all since Charles’ coronation

Interviewed by TalkTV, Talk’s royal correspondent Rupert Bell recently discussed a brand new poll that has been conducted, revealing the popularity of the royals.

“A year on from the coronation, a poll was conducted and it seemed to suggest that since the king has come to the throne his popularity has gone up,” he began, which cannot be said about Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.

“… One aforementioned Meghan doesn’t seem to have moved the dial at all,” he enlightened. “Down around about, pretty low,” he remarked.

“Obviously, the Prince and Princess of Wales are at the top of the tree, not surprisingly in many ways. To King, I think it’s in number three.”

It was reported on Tuesday, May 7th that Meghan’s husband Prince Harry has arrived in the UK for the celebration of the Invictus Games‘ 10th anniversary. For those unfamiliar, the Games see wounded and injured service people, whether serving or veterans, compete.

However, Harry has arrived in the UK without Meghan, who he’ll reunite with during a visit to Nigeria after his London trip.

Meghan Markle is still more popular than another of the royals

Despite Meghan’s popularity in the poll not having risen for a year, she’s not the lowest-rated royal.

“Prince Andrew is the least popular member,” Rupert confirmed to TalkTV, “although according to this poll, his popularity did go up by 1%, which I suppose he might take some comfort.”

So, Meghan hasn’t risen, but she’s still ranking above the Duke of York, who resigned from public roles in May 2020 following scrutiny over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Accounting for the popularity of other royals, Rupert regarded the past 12 months as an “interesting year… since the turn of the year when both the king and the princess of Wales are having to battle cancer, and that has obviously focused people’s minds and a huge level of sympathy…”

For King Charles, Rupert believes “it’s been a very positive start, even though he’s got difficult personal health issues to deal with.”
