Baseball: Osera pitches Carp to win over Tigers

Daichi Osera threw seven innings of one-run ball for his first win of the season as the Hiroshima Carp beat the Hanshin Tigers 3-1 on Wednesday.

Osera (1-0) limited the Central League-leading Tigers to four hits while walking two and striking out four at Koshien Stadium. The 32-year-old became the 157th pitcher in Japanese baseball history to reach 1,000 career strikeouts.

Kaito Kozono's RBI single broke a 1-1 tie before Shota Suekane followed with a run-scoring single of his own in the eighth off reliever Javy Guerra (0-2). Ryoji Kuribayashi earned his ninth save.

Among Wednesday's other games, the Yomiuri Giants beat the Chunichi Dragons 4-1, while the SoftBank Hawks extended their winning streak to four games with a 3-1 victory over the Nippon Ham Fighters.
