Fabrizio Romano now says Crystal Palace think they have made a "really special" signing

Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Crystal Palace believe they have pulled off a “really special” deal.

The reliable Italian journalist provided some insight from Selhurst Park following Monday’s emphatic 4-0 win over Manchester United, which has seemingly caused the football world to sit up and take notice of the Eagles.

So, what did Romano say about Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

Fabrizio Romano shares what Crystal Palace think of Adam Wharton

Speaking to Caught Offside, the Italian revealed that Crystal Palace have seriously high hopes for Adam Wharton – who is still only a youngster at the age of 20 despite huge fanfare surrounding his start to life in the Premier League.

Romano said: “Adam Wharton. Crystal Palace did a great job with this January signing. A lot of other clubs were monitoring Adam Wharton, but no one was as concrete as Palace. They really trusted him since day one of the January window.

“They believe he’s special, really special player, and it’s easy to see why after his strong start to life in the Premier League.”

At the time, £22m seemed like a lot to spend on a then 19-year-old from Blackburn Rovers.

However, Wharton is arguably worth more than double that figure already, after taking to life in the Premier League like a duck to water.

Blackburn Rovers fans even said they felt “robbed” by Dougie Freedman after Monday’s 4-0 win.

Furthermore, insiders at Crystal Palace believe the England U21 international could become the club’s best signing from the Championship – a bold claim considering that is where Ebere Eze and Michael Olise were taken from.

Success of £22m deal bodes well for the Eagles

Not only do Crystal Palace fans now get to enjoy seeing Wharton wear the red and blue on a weekly basis, but the knock-on effect of his success could be huge.

Other talents in the Championship – such as Hull City No.23 Jaden Philogene, a reported target for Crystal Palace – will see what a move to Selhurst Park could do for their careers, and will presumably now be more inclined to make the same switch, in hope of emulating Wharton, Olise and Eze.

Crystal Palace are also believed to be keen on signing Norwich City No.27 Jonathan Rowe, another player who is surely thinking that a move to SE25 would be beneficial to him.

If this really is what those in the Championship are currently thinking, we could see more gems from England’s second tier make the step up to Selhurst Park in future.
