‘Key’: Chris Sutton names the two Leeds players Norwich simply have to stop in Championship play-offs

Chris Sutton has named the two Leeds United players Norwich City will have to stop in the Championship play-offs.

Daniel Farke will be leading Leeds to face his former club for the third and fourth time respectively in a two-legged semi-final for a place at Wembley against either Southampton or West Bromwich Albion.

Neither side will be entering the play-offs in particularly good form, with Norwich having limped over the line to finish in sixth place, winning none of their last three.

Leeds, meanwhile, endured a horror drop off in form during the latter stages of the season, which ultimately saw them miss out on automatic promotion to Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

As a result, Leeds will now have to make Championship history in order to win the play-offs, as no club has ever been promoted via this route after losing four of their last six matches.

Sutton says Norwich will have to stop Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto

Sutton has had plenty to say on the play-offs today and believes Southampton are actually the favourites going into it due to the strength of their squad.

He also thinks all the pressure is on Leeds for their tie against the Canaries, suggesting Whites supporters are at risk of turning given the way they ended the season.

Having said that, Sutton has also acknowledged the amount of quality Leeds possess and in his column for the Norwich Evening News, has named two players Norwich simply have to stop.

The former Norwich striker thinks the battles between full-backs Jack Stacey and Sam McCallum/Dimi Giannoulis against Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto will be the key to their progression.

He wrote: “The wide areas will be a key battleground. It will be Jack Stacey versus Crysencio Summerville and Sam McCallum or Dimi Giannoulis against Willy Gnonto. Norwich have to win those battles if they want to come through the two legs.”

Leeds need Summerville and Gnonto at their best

Summerville and Gnonto are without doubt two of the best wingers in the league but when they are off it, Leeds lose so much of their threat.

Both were at their absolute best in Leeds’ recent victory over Middlesbrough and it is no coincidence that was a match they ended up scoring four, with those two netting three of them.

However, neither performed particularly well against Queens Park Rangers or Southampton, with pundit Jon Newsome even claiming the defeat at the former was Summerville’s worst performance in a long time.

Hopefully they will enter the play-offs refreshed and rejuvenated ready to show their best and fire Leeds to promotion back to the Premier League.
