Bayern's Tuchel moans 'disastrous' refereeing decision in Madrid loss

German team Bayern Munich have expressed their anger at the match officials, after the dramatic Champions League semi-final defeat at Real Madrid.

"It is a disaster. Tough to swallow, but that is the way it is," said coach Thomas Tuchel after the 2-1 defeat in the second leg on Wednesday.

In the 13th minute of stoppage time, Matthijs de Ligt's equalizer was not awarded and also not reviewed by the video assistant because referee Szymon Marciniak had blown his whistle shortly before the Dutchman's finish, due to a a dubious offside ruling moments earlier.

"The referee does not have to whistle. He sees that we win the second ball, he sees that we get a shot away and to whistle is a very, very bad decision," said Tuchel. "And it is against the rules and it is a bad decision from both of them."

"It was a disastrous decision from the linesman and the referee. It feels almost like a betrayal in the end because of that decision," said Tuchel.

The offside position of de Ligt after a long pass from Joshua Kimmich was controversial because Real defender Antonio Rüdiger was at a similar position on the field.

"I find that unbelievable. I can't understand it. It's not very clear, you have to let it through," said de Ligt, revealing that the referee had apologized.

"I think we all know the rules. If the offside call is not clear, you have to play on! This is the rule! I find it a little bit of a disgrace. The goal of Joselu was also almost offside and they keep on playing, so why not with us?" de Ligt said.

Substitute Thomas Müller, who had headed the ball to de Ligt, spoke of an "absolutely wild" scene.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who first made an outstanding save, then blundered before Joselu made it 1-1 in the 88th minute and also had to concede the Spaniard's second goal (90+1), said, "I think he knows himself that it was a mistake in the end and that you can't make the decision too early."
