"Probably needed": Ian Wright picks out surprise position Crystal Palace must strengthen this summer

Former Crystal Palace player and pundit Ian Wright has now shared where he thinks Oliver Glasner should be strengthening this summer. Of all the positions he could’ve picked, he’s chosen a fairly surprising area.

This summer is set to be a busy one for Crystal Palace as the club will look to build upon the impressive platform Oliver Glasner has established already.

The window is one in which we are expecting to see several departures with some being for free and also a big sale or two.

But the outgoings will hopefully be out shadowed by the incomings with multiple players already being linked with a move to Selhurst Park this summer.

Having his say, Ian Wright has shared his views on the Palace squad and picked one position which needs attention this summer.

Ian Wright wants Crystal Palace to sign a right-back

In what is a rather bizarre opinion, Wright has picked out the right-back position as the area he wants strengthened this summer.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, the retired striker explained his preferences for the summer window.

“Obviously I feel that a right-back is probably needed for Palace.”

This is a rather interesting choice considering it isn’t exactly a weak spot for Palace with Daniel Munoz currently making the position his own after making the £7m move in January.

But despite it not being a weak spot, Wright seems keen to improve on the Colombian. So who could Palace end up getting in to fill this role?

Dougie Freedman already has one option scouted

If the club are to take the advice of Wright, there’s already one option that Dougie Freedman has identified already.

This player is Fenerbahce right wing-back Bright Osayi-Samuel who’s been linked with a move to Selhurst Park on multiple occasions.

The Nigerian international is a close friend of Eberechi Eze and as recently as last month, the Eagles were scouting Osayi-Samuel.

A true wing-back, he’d be an excellent choice in the attacking role Munoz occupies but the only problem is he’s not an upgrade and would probably cost more.

A right-back is probably far from a priority this summer, although an understudy to Munoz wouldn’t be an awful result.
