How record EFL TV deal will help Wrexham after promotion to League One

A record TV deal is in place ready for next season which will benefit Wrexham.

Wrexham’s rise over the last few years has been unimaginable for most, if not, all supporters.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds arrived at Wrexham in February 2021 and changed the course of the club’s history.

The Reds were stuck in the National League for 15 years until their promotion in 2023 and now, they are gearing up for their first League One campaign in nearly 20 years.

Naturally, many more people will have taken an interest in the Welsh side – partly down to the Welcome to Wrexham documentary – but also how they’ve blitzed through the last two divisions.

Due to their success and the work of their Hollywood owners, thousands of people from the United States are also tuning in to watch Wrexham. Shaun Harvey claims 5,000 households watched iFollow coverage of the Red Dragons last season.

As a result of their increasing popularity, the Reds were said to have inspired the EFL’s nine-figure TV deal, with Wrexham poised to reap the benefits next season.

How Wrexham will benefit from record TV deal

After securing a record TV deal, Sky Sports can show over 1,000 EFL matches in the 2024/25 campaign.

This has huge implications for Wrexham as every single League One and League Two team will be featured live on Sky at least 20 times next season.

Wrexham have shown they can bring in high viewership and increased revenue from across the globe, so there is a huge chance that Phil Parkinson’s men will be prominent on Sky Sports.

Their story has been captured by the documentary and now, their journey in League One will be regularly followed by Sky Sports, allowing supporters – who can’t attend a match – a regular source of viewing action.

Increased exposure for Wrexham

Many match-going supporters won’t be fond of seeing Wrexham broadcast live on television regularly, as they feel it could cause a decrease in fans attending matches in person.

On the flip side, skyrocketing exposure for the club will only benefit their revenue streams and increase the number of people watching from abroad.

The core of Wrexham’s fanbase is in Wales, but there are now thousands of supporters from across the globe who are interested in watching the Reds.

Hopefully, Sky Sports will show Parkinson’s men win a third consecutive promotion next May as that will create history in the football pyramid.
