'An honour...': Elliot Lee shares ‘special’ message to Wrexham fans after promotion to League One

Wrexham midfielder Elliot Lee has penned a ‘special’ message to supporters after winning promotion to League One.

After reaching League One for the first time in nearly 20 years, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds rewarded the players with a trip to Las Vegas for the second year running.

It was a chance for the squad to wind down before preparations get underway for their campaign in the third tier, with unsung hero Andy Cannon describing the trip as ‘special’.

The trip saw the entire squad attend – including departing veterans Luke Young and Ben Tozer – who see their contracts expire in June.

It was a fitting way for Wrexham to cap off a fantastic season and Elliot Lee has reflected on a momentous campaign for the club.

Elliot Lee shares ‘special’ Wrexham message

Lee was a key cog in Phil Parkinson’s promotion-winning machine. The 29-year-old stepped up at the start of the season when Paul Mullin was injured by scoring seven goals in his first eight matches.

Although the return of Mullin hampered his involvement, the West Ham academy graduate still finished the campaign with 16 goals and earned a place in the League Two Team of the Season.

Lee – like many players at Wrexham – is too good to be playing in the fourth tier and having helped Luton win promotion to the Championship previously, he’ll be looking to do the same at the STōK Cae Ras.

Reflecting on a ‘special’ season at the club, he wrote on X:

Lee arrived at Wrexham in the summer of 2022 and he’s since described the dressing room as the best he’s been a part of, which speaks volumes about how highly he values his teammates.

Elliot Lee’s League One record

Many are tipping Wrexham to achieve a third consecutive promotion because their squad is brimming with League One experience.

In terms of achievements in the third tier, Lee is right up there among his Wrexham teammates, having fired 12 goals in Luton’s 2018/19 campaign to get them into the Championship.

Indeed, the midfield metronome has played more matches in League One (113) than in any other division, and the talented playmaker is poised to play a prominent role once more.

Parkinson will be counting on his current core of players to build the foundations of their success next term, with Mullin, Lee, Cannon, James McClean and Max Cleworth, to name a few, all ready to take the league by storm.

Lee’s impact from midfield could be invaluable and if he can eclipse his tally of 12 goals in 2018/19, Wrexham will have a huge chance of challenging towards the top.
