Todd Boehly gives verdict on Chelsea project ahead of Mauricio Pochettino decision

By Tom Gott

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has insisted that the Blues' recent upturn in form serves as evidence that their long-term plan for the club is "coming together".

After 18 months of expensive signings and poor on-field results, Chelsea have begun to put things together in 2024 and have enjoyed a particularly impressive run over their past three games - a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur and 5-0 thumping of West Ham United.

Boehly admitted he was delighted to see Chelsea firing on the pitch as he urged fans to remain patient with the project on offer at Stamford Bridge.

"We've seen the last two-and-a-half games, at least in the second half at Aston Villa and Tottenham and West Ham where we played just beautiful football," Boehly said during a Sportico conference in Los Angeles.

"It was so fluid, it was exactly the way we drew it up, when we came out of the back, built up and moved up the pitch, very organised and the number of shots we had on board. In those two-and-a-half games, you could really start to see what we were working on coming together.

"Even the commentary has changed over the last two-and-a-half games. I've never seen anything change so quickly."

Boehly will be part of the group that ultimately makes a decision on the future of Mauricio Pochettino this summer. The Argentine signed a two-year contract last summer which includes the option for a further 12 months, but Chelsea could opt to move in a different direction this summer.

90min understands the plan with Pochettino has always been to hold what sources describe as a 'two-way appraisal' this summer, during which the board will give their opinions on Pochettino's progress and the manager will also get the opportunity to discuss Boehly and the rest of the hierarchy's performance this year.

Officials have always been keen to stand by Pochettino and these latest comments from Boehly, who was not asked about the manager's future during this latest appearance, suggest that loyalty has not faded.
