Ange Postecoglou now considering move for ex-Tottenham Hotspur talent sold by Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur fans are expecting big changes this summer and Ange Postecoglou will surely prioritise the signing of at least one full back.

Tottenham were enjoying a fantastic first season under Ange Postecoglou but results and performances have taken a turn for the worse.

Four defeats in a row have left Tottenham’s Champions League hopes in tatters and Spurs have leaked 13 goals in that run.

This form has ramped up up the pressure on Postecoglou; few are seriously calling for him to be sacked, but there is real frustration over recent results and displays.

The end of the season is in sight now and Postecoglou will be hoping to make big changes to his squad ahead of his second season in charge.

Postecoglou has already confirmed his plans to overhaul the squad, seemingly signalling that plenty of players will be leaving – and plenty of players will be coming in.

We would imagine that at least one full back will be needed; Ben Davies isn’t really suited to the left back role in Postecoglou’s approach and Emerson Royal hasn’t really impressed enough since his 2021 arrival.

Tottenham Hotspur eye Kyle Walker-Peters

Perhaps a full back who can comfortably operate at both right back and left back will be a target.

One man who fits that bill is Kyle Walker-Peters, who has enjoyed a strong season with Championship play-off side Southampton.

Walker-Peters came up in the Tottenham ranks before being sold by Jose Mourinho for £12million back in 2020.

Now 27, Walker-Peters has honed his craft at Southampton and even earned two England caps in 2022.

TalkSPORT now claim that Tottenham are considering a move to re-sign Walker-Peters this summer.

It’s suggested that Walker-Peters fits what Tottenham are seeking in terms of his attack-minded nature and his versatility.

Walker-Peters is out of contract in 2025 and if Southampton don’t achieve promotion back to the Premier League through the play-offs, they will need to sell.

Boss Russell Martin has already accepted that the ‘brilliant’ Walker-Peters could be on the move this summer and Tottenham appear to be keen.

Walker-Peters can help homegrown situation

Tottenham may miss out on Champions League action but Europa League football could be secured for next season.

If Tottenham are in European competition again, then homegrown players will be needed – including players who count as ‘club-trained’.

Tottenham have a problem in this regard given that both Harry Kane and Harry Winks left the club last summer.

Add in that Japhet Tanganga and Troy Parrott could move on this summer and Tottenham could have a homegrown issue.

Walker-Peters would help with that situation having come up in the Tottenham ranks before settling down at Southampton.

It’s unlikely that Tottenham sign a full back to replace Pedro Porro or Destiny Udogie this summer and Walker-Peters being able to cover both areas is certainly appealing.

This may not be a rumour that would get fans excited but given Tottenham’s full back situation – and the homegrown matter – it’s a move which would make sense.
