Prince Harry fans say his latest UK visit is royals’ ‘worst nightmare’

On Wednesday, May 8th 2024, Prince Harry was met by crowds of adoring fans during his trip to London. Arriving in the capital without his wife, he traveled to attend a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The international multi-sport event was founded by Harry in 2014, and set up for wounded, injured, and sick service people and veterans to compete.

“We love you, Harry,” people in the crowd shouted in the wake of the event. Fans turned up in the hundreds to catch a glimpse and show their appreciation of the Duke.

In reaction, some have argued it’s certain to irritate the Royal Family. “Their worst nightmare,” one tweeted, referring to the scene of Harry being welcomed with glee as a nightmare for the royals, who didn’t show up. King Charles was instead joined by other royals at a Buckingham Palace garden party.

“They hated the crowds his Mom commanded, too,” one argued on X/Twitter. “He is her son in every way. His affinity for being around people is authentic and natural, just like it was for Diana, and they couldn’t stand it.”

“I’m in tears,” another weighed in. “He is still and will always remain a gentleman and they love him. Very touching moment.”

Support and praise have been showered upon the prince and those who turned up to cheer him on. “I’m so happy that people came out to support Prince Harry!” one championed.

Prince Harry was joined by members of his mom’s family

Key members of the British monarchy were notably absent from the Invictus Games anniversary event, but members of his late mother Princess Diana’s family were in attendance.

Harry’s aunt and uncle Lady Jane Fellowes and Earl Charles Spencer were there to share in the achievement of the Invictus Games’ milestone. The two were brother and sister to Diana, who tragically passed away in 1997. Harry’s cousin Louis Spencer was also present.

“And his maternal family accompanying him,” a member of the public tweeted. “This is how it’s done! Very classy.”

Harry was shown to be in very high spirits when greeting and shaking hands with members of the British public, appreciative of the warm welcome gifted by those who still think the world of him, even if he lives far across the pond.
