Report: Aston Villa handed boost in bid to sign £25m striker who Pep Guardiola thinks is 'incredible'

Aston Villa have been handed a major boost in their bid to sign a £25m striker, according to a recent report.

The Villans are on the cusp of a top-four finish which would see them qualify for the Champions League, thus increasing their transfer budget.

They’re thought to be in the market for a striker this summer, presumably to play a support role for Ollie Watkins, who has fired in 19 Premier League goals this term.

With that said, they’re now in pole position to land one of their rumoured targets.

Aston Villa target Kelechi Iheanacho won’t sign new deal

Kelechi Iheanacho is a player Villa have been long linked with and various publications have said he is a target once again ahead of the summer transfer window.

Iheanacho, who joined Leicester City in a £25m deal in 2017, has hardly had a look in this season despite an impressive start.

That’s been the story of his Foxes career, in truth, though he’s still managed to net a commendable 61 goals across 232 appearances for the club.

Pep Guardiola has previously labelled him as an ‘incredible’ player and there is little doubting his quality, it seems he just needs a manager who trusts him.

With that said, according to Fanatik, Iheanacho, who is out of contract this summer, has decided against renewing his deal at King Power Stadium.

Aston Villa could secure one of the bargains of the window

Iheanacho is now set to become a free agent at the end of his Leicester contract in June and if Villa are to land his signature, what a bargain it’d be.

They did the same last year with Youri Tielemans, who joined from the East Midlanders on a free transfer.

Given his Premier League experience and versatility to play in a deeper role, even as a number 10, it’s a no-brainer for Emery.
