Taylor Swift's feud to be center of documentary as Bad Blood laid bare

The feud between Taylor Swift and music producer Scooter Braun is getting the documentary treatment as we speak.

Streaming services like Spotify have a treasure trove of Taylor Swift music, inviting you to listen to everything from her 2006 self-titled studio album to her eleventh full-length album The Tortured Poets Department. However, when scrolling through her catalog you’re often met with a choice… standard version or Taylor’s Version? Those less acquainted with the singer-songwriter’s lore may be perplexed upon seeing some of the icon’s albums doubled up, but the reason behind it is going to be explored in-depth in a new documentary.

Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun feud documentary is incoming

A two-part documentary series titled Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood is set to be released as part of Warner Bros. Discovery UK’s ‘vs’ series, which has famously included such documentary episodes as Johnny vs. Amber and Kim vs. Kanye: The Divorce.

For those unfamiliar, Scooter is a 42-year-old American entrepreneur and record executive who is also credited for discovering pop icon Justin Bieber.

He and Taylor notoriously butted heads when he acquired the record label Big Machine Records, with it acquiring the rights to Taylor’s catalog in 2019.

At the time, that was six albums, leading to a $300 million dispute between the two powerful music industry figures. It was after the acquisition that Taylor began re-recording and re-releasing her previous albums under the ‘Taylor’s Version’ subtitle.

The Hollywood Reporter details that the feud will be chronicled in two hour-long installments and will provide perspective from both sides of the fence. One side will explore that “the sale was conducted without consulting [Taylor] and that she has since been blocked from buying back her masters.”

On the other hand, an episode will also platform Scooter’s take, alleging that Taylor “refused to negotiate and instead incited a public feud by pitting her fan base against him.”

New Taylor Swift documentary promises to ‘resonate’

With the promise of a wide range of sources weighing in on the feud, from legal experts to those close to the two figures, the documentary is sure to paint a detailed picture with compelling arguments on both sides.

Charlotte Reid, vp commissioning, networks & streaming at WBD U.K. & Ireland has already had her say on what to expect. “Taylor Swift’s dispute with Scooter Braun over the ownership of her music exploded into the mainstream, taking contract law from board room to social media and into public interest,” she began in a statement.

“It’s a high-profile, high-interest story that opened debate on fandom and dominated headlines, one which will resonate with our viewers who are highly engaged with access-led documentaries like ‘vs.’”

Although a release date is yet to be officially announced, it’s already been confirmed that the documentary will premiere sometime in June this year. Let the bad blood flow.
