Report: West Ham should try to sign 'sensational' Championship attacker as Said Benrahma's replacement - opinion

Here, TBR takes a look at a Championship attacker West Ham United should look to sign this summer transfer window.

It seems Said Benrahma will be departing West Ham this summer after news emerged of Lyon’s desire to make his loan deal a permanent one.

The Ligue 1 outfit are keen to activate his release clause so club chiefs will be beginning the process of finding a replacement behind the scenes.

Here is one ‘sensational’ Championship winger they should consider.

West Ham United should target Plymouth Argyle’s Morgan Whittaker

West Ham should try to sign Plymouth Argyle’s Morgan Whittaker this summer after his phenomenal season in the Championship.

The former Swansea City man, who joined Plymouth in a club-record £1m deal last summer, netted 19 times in the Championship this season, making him the division’s joint-third highest scorer.

The 23-year-old left-footed wide player was subjected to a lot of interest during the winter transfer window, with Serie A giants Lazio launching a proposal.

He’s expected to be in demand once again this summer and The Hammers, who did hold an interest in him earlier this year, should be all over the deal.

How Morgan Whittaker fits in at West Ham United

Whittaker primarily plays off the right, cutting in onto his favoured left foot, just as Jarrod Bowen so often does.

However, he has operated as an attacking midfielder on 18 occasions this term, evincing his terrific versatility.

With that said, if he were to arrive at the London Stadium this summer, he’d provide excellent squad depth in a number of areas.

Even on the left, too, which could see him play as a more traditional wide player, delivering out swinging crosses for the forward.

Whittaker would certainly be a fantastic addition.
