Arsenal have done very well over the past couple of years with regards to getting players to sign new contracts at the club.
There was a time not that long ago when this used to be one of the Gunners‘ weaknesses. Top players’ contracts entered into the final 12 months far too often.
However, Arsenal have turned this weakness into a strength, with many top players committing their futures to the Emirates Stadium in recent times.
On Thursday, the Gunners announced that another player has put pen to paper on a contract extension at N5, namely Jorginho.
According to The Guardian, the Italy international turned down a potential return to Serie A to extend his stint at Arsenal until 2025.
Jorginho took to Instagram to celebrate his contract extension, and plenty of fans, plus the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Edu, have congratulated him in the comments.
What has been said about Jorginho contract extension at Arsenal?
Jorginho joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 in a deal reportedly worth around £12million.
The 32-year-old has made 51 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, of which 35 have come this season.
Jorginho’s efforts have been rewarded with a contract extension, which Mikel Arteta, Edu and the player himself have lauded.
The Italy international told the Arsenal website: “It’s been really positive, because I felt part of something big straight away.
“I felt involved and really in a good place. It’s not always like that, so when you feel something like this, it’s something important.
“I’m really happy to stay, because it’s a privilege to be a part of this family. My family is happy, we are really well settled and there’s more to come!”
Meanwhile, Arteta said: “Jorgi is such an important part of our team, a role model with great leadership skills and a unique playing style ability which makes everybody better around him on the pitch.
Edu added: “We’re very happy to have Jorgi sign a contract extension with us. He represents what we stand for here at Arsenal with his professionalism and success.
“I know everyone at the club will be very excited that Jorgi will continue to be with us, not only the players and coaches, but all the staff behind the scenes as well.
“It’s great that Jorginho remains with us, as we continue building to be better and stronger.”
