Report: Tottenham feel they rely on £39m player too much, Ange Postecoglou now keen to sign help

Tottenham believe they are too reliant on one player in N17 – with Ange Postecoglou now set to sign a backup option to help out.

One thing that separates the Premier League’s elite clubs from Spurs right now is their strength in depth.

If Manchester City lose Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku steps in – for example – while Tottenham often find themselves needing to put a square peg in a round hole, such as Emerson Royal in for Destiny Udogie, a far stiffer player who visibly lacks the technical skills of the Italian.

On the topic of Emerson, he is one player up for sale this summer – according to the Telegraph.

At least Ange Postecoglou is aware of his lack of quality squad depth, with Tottenham now ready to sign a backup option in one area…

Tottenham ready to sign Pedro Porro deputy

A story from The Athletic claims that Spurs believe they are too dependant on Pedro Porro being fit.

There is a feeling within Hotspur Way that Tottenham are knocked off their stride whenever the Spain international has to miss games through injury.

Spurs are aware that the UEFA Europa League fixtures will only put more strain on Porro next season, so Postecoglou has decided to sign someone similar, who can allow the Spaniard to be rested from time to time.

The Tottenham No.23 has enjoyed an excellent campaign under the Australian, scoring two goals while also providing seven assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Spurs have a player in mind

It seems Postecoglou has already identified a potential deputy for the £39m man Porro – and Tottenham fans know him well.

The north Londoners are now considering a move to bring Kyle Walker-Peters back to N17, according to talkSPORT.

It is said that Spurs view the England international as someone who can slot in seamlessly for Porro thanks to his technical ability.

Furthermore, Southampton will be forced to sell Walker-Peters if they fail to win the Championship play-offs this season, as the Tottenham academy graduate only has 12 months remaining on his contract.

Therefore, this is a realistic deal for Postecoglou to pursue if the Saints slip up against West Brom.
