Former US Open winner Dominic Thiem will retire from tennis at the end of the season.
The 30-year-old Austrian made the announcement on Instagram on Friday.
"I have to tell you a very important, very sad but also a very beautiful message: The season 2024 is going to be my last one," Thiem said in a video.
One reason for his retirement is his constantly injured wrist, another is his emotional state, he said.
The former top 10 player and twice French Open runner-up will go down in history as one of Austria's most successful sportsmen. In 2020, he celebrated his greatest victory in the final in New York against Alexander Zverev.
In a memorable final, Thiem spoilt his long-time rival's grand slam title hopes after coming back from 2-0 sets down. His best world ranking was third place and he celebrated a total of 17 ATP titles.
In recent years, however, a serious wrist injury meant he had to take a long break and he never rediscovered his form.
Thiem is currently ranked 117th.
