'Keep an eye': Journalist thinks £30m Arsenal player is going to join Newcastle this summer

Arsenal want to sign a couple of players from Newcastle United this summer, but a deal going the opposite way is perhaps more likely.

Heading into the summer, it would appear that Arsenal are keen admirers of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

Bruno is aware that Arsenal would like to have him at the Emirates Stadium, while Isak is the Gunners’ top striker target as they go in search of a consistent source of goals. That is the one thing they appear to be missing, and believe Isak could be the solution.

However, both players will cost Arsenal a huge amount of money. Bruno has a £100million release clause, while you have to imagine that Isak will cost even more than that.

Newcastle could move for Arsenal outcast this summer

But while Arsenal look likely to be priced out of a deal for both of Newcastle United’s superstars, one of Mikel Arteta’s players could potentially head to Tyneside.

The Magpies look likely to be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer, and have been named as potential suitors for Arsenal outcast Aaron Ramsdale. The England international is no longer Mikel Arteta’s first choice stopper, and looks on course to secure a move away from North London this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale could arrive at St James’ Park

And TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that he thinks St James’ Park could become Ramsdale’s new home next season.

“The goalkeeping situation is one to definitely keep an eye on,” he said.

“That’s got legs. I think there’s a real chance that Newcastle bring a goalkeeper in – a number one.

“Eddie Howe wants Aaron Ramsdale. He’s available. Howe wants him and I think Howe will get him.

“It would be one of the strongest goalkeeping departments in the Premier League with Ramsdale and Nick Pope.”

New goalkeeper at Newcastle United seems very likely

With Loris Karius set to leave when his contract expires and Martin Dubravka possibly being sold, it seems all but certain that a new goalkeeper arrives at Newcastle this summer. But the big question will be whether the Magpies sign a backup option for Nick Pope or someone who can compete for the number one position.

If a player like Ramsdale were to arrive, you have to imagine it is the latter. There is no way that Ramsdale is going to leave Arsenal just to be backup once again, that is for sure.

The £30million man needs to be playing regularly, and a move to the North East would suggest he is going to replace Pope. That would come as a surprise, and would be a rather ruthless move.

Pope has been excellent since joining Newcastle, and it has been a massive blow to be without him for so long this season. Thankfully he is back now, and will hopefully start against Brighton on Saturday.

But the Ramsdale rumours are surely going to ramp up heading into the summer, as he is a player who ticks a lot of boxes. He is going to be available, he is only 25-years-old, he’s got Premier League experience, and he knows Eddie Howe.

Bailey believes that Howe wants to be reunited with Ramsdale, and thinks that the Newcastle United manager will get his wish. It is certainly one to watch this summer.
