Bochum not cowed as Leverkusen plot revenge for last defeat

Bayer Leverkusen's last defeat in any competition came on May 27 last year at the end of the Bundesliga season when they lost 3-0 at Bochum.

They meet again on Sunday in Bochum with the hosts still not safe and recently-crowned German Leverkusen gunning for an unbeaten season and a treble.

Bochum coach Heiko Butscher, who has won two games in a row, is staying positive in his messages to his team.

"If we emphasize everything that makes Leverkusen strong and only point out their strengths, I'm scaring my team," he told reporters on Friday.

His problem is that Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, despite all the success he has presided over since, still remembers that last defeat and it hurts.

"I haven't forgotten that game," he said after reaching the Europa League final on Thursday. "It was annoying."

Now his side are so close to an unprecedented unbeaten European season in all competitions, Alonso does not want to let up now.

"Normally there is a defeat at some point on such a long journey but my team keeps showing that it is ready for anything. There are still four games left and we don't want to stop," he said.
