'On their list': West Ham want to sign truly 'incredible' £35m forward Lopetegui knows well - journalist

West Ham United are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window ahead of a new era at the London Stadium.

David Moyes will leave the Hammers at the end of the season and Julen Lopetegui is expected to take the reins at the club.

West Ham could do with bolstering their ranks, particularly in attack, where they’ve found themselves short at times this season.

Now, an attacking player who has been linked with the Hammers over the past few transfer windows could once again be on their radar.

The player in question is Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, and Dean Jones has provided an update regarding the West Ham-linked forward.

What has Dean Jones said about West Ham and Youssef En-Nesyri?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “En-Nesyri has been linked with West Ham for years, quite literally.

“So if it does not finally happen this summer we can forget it as it probably makes more sense now than it ever has.

“Sevilla are opening up to the idea of selling him and Lopetegui has worked with him before and he would fit well with how the team is likely to set up going forward.

“He is still on their list but it’ll depend on how Steidten sees the deal opening up as to whether this actually can happen this time.”

Who is West Ham target Youssef En-Nesyri?

En-Nesyri has been on Sevilla’s books since 2020, having previously played for Leganes and Malaga.

The 26-year-old has featured 192 times for Sevilla, registering 70 goals and seven assists in all competitions. He has also lifted two Europa Leagues with the club.

En-Nesyri has also won 71 caps for Morocco, scoring 20 goals and registering three assists for the Atlas Lions, who he helped to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals.

In 2023, Breaking the Lines published an in-depth analysis article on the reported West Ham target, where they sung his praises.

They described En-Nesyri as a ‘devastating’, ‘reliable and effective’ forward with ‘arguably one of the best leaps in football’.

Meanwhile, David Moyes described the player as an “incredible good runner” in a pre-World Cup article in The Times.

In terms of price tag, the Daily Mail reported at the start of the year that the 6ft 3in ace has a price tag of around £35million.

En-Nesyri looks like a good shout for West Ham. He’s a talented, physically imposing and experienced striker with a solid goal record at the highest level, and his reported price tag isn’t too bad.
