Report: Liverpool want to sign 'incredibly prolific' forward with a goal every 84 minutes, rival suitors lagging behind

Liverpool are likely to make additions to their first-team squad in the summer transfer window as a new era beckons at Anfield.

Arne Slot is set to take over from Jurgen Klopp in the Reds dugout, and there have also been changes at boardroom level.

The Liverpool squad has a number of players who will be out of contract next year, so this is something the Reds hierarchy will need to address in summer.

Mohamed Salah is a player whose future is currently uncertain and, while reports have suggested he’s likely to stay, Liverpool will need to think about a long-term successor.

Over the past few days, one report has been doing the rounds claiming the Reds are in pursuit of a forward who has been likened to Mohamed Salah.

The player in question is Union Saint-Giloise forward Mohamed Amoura, and a new report from Kicker has just suggested Liverpool may be among the frontrunners.

Kicker has reported that Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg are after the 23-year-old, but they face ‘wealthy competition from the Premier League’ in the form of Liverpool.

The German outfit is ‘certainly not the favourite in the courtship of the lively and fast goalscorer’, added the report.

Who is Liverpool target Mohamed Amoura?

Born in the Algerian city of Tahir in May 2000, Amoura began his footballing journey with ES Setif in his home country.

In 2021, he moved to Swiss outfit Lugano. According to The National News, teammates soon began calling him “little Salah” in training.

This is because of Amoura’s speed, confidence on the ball and career parallels with the Liverpool star as North Africans who are going from strength to strength after shining in Switzerland.

Amoura joined Union Saint-Giloise last year, and he has enjoyed a superb maiden season at the Belgian club, even scoring and assisting against Liverpool in the Europa League.

To date, he has registered 23 goals and seven assists from 44 outings in all competitions. Kicker have reported how he has a goal every 84 minutes this season.

The ‘incredibly prolific‘ Amoura is also an Algeria international and turned out for his nation at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

In March, Voetbal Belgie reported that Amoura’s current market value is €10million, but his club wants €20million (£17million).

This is still very much a bargain fee for a Premier League club, and for an elite outfit like Liverpool, it’s pretty much peanuts.
