Report: Premier League club would already consider big offer for recent signing, Chelsea were keen in January

Chelsea could have another chance to sign one player who they were interested in during the January transfer window.

For the first time under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, Chelsea were not active in the market.

While Cesare Casadei was recalled from his loan spell at Leicester City, the Blues did not buy anyone for their first team.

It was in stark contrast to the previous January transfer window, where Chelsea spent heavily on the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Both players are two of the club’s most expensive signings in history.

Crystal Palace could sell recent Chelsea target

While Chelsea were quiet in the January transfer window, Crystal Palace spent a bit of money.

The Eagles signed Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers for an initial £18m fee.

However, it looks like the midfielder could also be on the move.

According to talkSPORT, Palace would consider a big offer for Wharton this summer.

The same outlet has also claimed that both Chelsea and Bayern Munich were interested in the 20-year-old before his move to Selhurst Park.

Should Chelsea reignite their interest in Adam Wharton?

Chelsea already have some quality midfield options, including the likes of Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Conor Gallagher’s contract is running down, but instead of replacing him with someone like Wharton, for example, the Blues would be better off just handing the 24-year-old a new deal.

Gallagher has been brilliant this season after all. Across all competitions, the England international has scored seven goals and provided nine assists.

Chelsea may need to sell him and others this summer to avoid breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. However, if that can be avoided, it should and is likely to reduce their desire to go out and buy another midfielder like Wharton.

Ultimately, Chelsea look fine in midfield and will be going forward once Fernandez returns from injury and if Gallagher remains at Stamford Bridge.
