Report: Liverpool are now interested in signing 'mature' Newcastle United star, he's a Reds fan

Newcastle United have no desire to sell their best players this summer, but that does not stop them being linked with moves away.

There have been relentless rumours about Bruno Guimaraes leaving the club this summer, and body language experts went into overdrive as he looked despondent following Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Brighton.

There has also been speculation that Alexander Isak could leave St James’ Park, with the Magpies’ most expensive signing ever attracting interest from Arsenal. They need a goalscorer like Isak, but Newcastle have no desire to sell their top scorer. And if he were to go, he would cost more than £100million.

And the same goes for another one of Newcastle’s top players.

Liverpool interested in Newcastle United star

A year and a half after arriving in the North East, there is now a rumour about Anthony Gordon heading back to Merseyside.

Newcastle signed Gordon from Everton for £45million, and he may now have the chance to go back to the North West – but not to return to the Toffees.

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are interested in signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer.

They report that the 23-year-old is being tracked by the Reds, who are planning who to bring in as they prepare for Jurgen Klopp’s exit.

Gordon is seemingly near the top of their list of targets, and it is easy to understand why given how well he has played this season.

How Anthony Gordon compares to Liverpool’s forwards

The England international has enjoyed a special season, and has been Newcastle United’s best player. However, he has not been recognised by the Premier League for his exploits.

But when you compare Gordon to Liverpool’s forwards, it is clear why they are interested in bringing the Scouser to Anfield. Out of their forwards, Mo Salah is the only one who has outperformed Gordon in the Premier League.

Gordon is reportedly a Liverpool fan

One thing that Liverpool may think gives them an advantage is Gordon’s affinity for the Reds.

Despite coming through the Everton academy, it was reported by the Telegraph last year that Gordon actually grew up as a Liverpool fan and followed them throughout his youth.

Interestingly, he also recently stated that Steven Gerrard was his childhood idol, while he has tried to model his game on current Liverpool legend Mo Salah.

But whether that is enough to convince Gordon to swap Newcastle for Liverpool remains to be seen. He will cost an incredible amount of money, while he appears to be more at home than ever in the North East.

Gordon is idolised on Tyneside, and has really taken his game to the next level under Eddie Howe. They have got a real bond, with Gordon recognising that Howe’s efforts are a key reason why he is now the player he is.

While his attitude was previously questioned, Howe now believes that Gordon is a ‘mature‘ player and someone that he can rely on.

And that is why Newcastle United will not be selling Gordon to Liverpool, or anyone else for that matter.
