Given how many games Liverpool will have to play throughout the season, that would leave them quite vulnerable in that department. It would therefore make sense to recruit at least one more centre-back.
Why Liverpool should be looking to target Logan Costa
One player who really suits Liverpool’s profile well in terms of what the Reds will be looking for is Logan Costa.
The criteria for a Liverpool centre-back is to win a high volume of aerial duels and defensive duels while also averaging a high volume of interceptions and being comfortable on the ball in terms of making forward passes.
As per Wyscout, Rousing the Kop narrowed it’s search down to four potential candidates who fit that profile. Costa was among them, as well as Matthijs de Ligt, Sven Botman and Arthur Theate.
Out of the four of them, De Ligt and Botman, seem out of reach for Liverpool. Theate could be a good option but Costa might be the more cost effective choice with Transfermarkt valuing him at £6.8m.
Who is Logan Costa?
The 23-year-old centre-back has really burst onto the scene this season. He’s finally fought himself into Toulouse’s starting XI, and his numbers demonstrate just how impressive he has been.
The Cape Verde international showed that against Liverpool as well in the Europa League earlier this season.
In Toulouse’s victory against Liverpool, Costa won five out of six defensive duels, made seven interceptions and seven recoveries.
Liverpool will be looking for cost-effective solutions this summer and that will make Costa an absolutely ideal candidate to be Slot’s first signing at the club.
