Report: Barcelona officials still annoyed with missing out on ‘special’ player to Inter Miami

FC Barcelona officials are reportedly still frustrated over missing out on a rumored transfer target who ended up signing for Inter Miami.

The arrival of Lionel Messi last year has transformed the Herons into one of the most well-known clubs in the world, with the Argentine heralding a new era at Inter Miami that could lead to years of success.

As well as Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba both arrived in Florida last summer with Inter Miami also moving to sign Luis Suarez this January, with other big names such as Julian Gressel being brought in to flesh out the squad.

And Inter Miami also beat Barcelona to a signing, one that the European giants are still annoyed about.

Barcelona frustrated over losing out on Federico Redondo to Inter Miami

According to E-Noticies, Barcelona officials are still annoyed over the clubs’ inability to land transfer targets in the January window, including Federico Redondo, who joined Inter Miami in the winter market.

Lauded as ‘special’, Redondo was also reportedly wanted by Real Madrid before the Herons pulled way ahead in the race to sign the Argentine youth international to land the midfielder for $8m.

Whilst Redondo has spent the last six weeks out injured, the 21-year-old’s arrival was lauded as a steal for Inter Miami, who landed one of the most exciting prospects in all of South America.

And in beating Barcelona and Real Madrid to Redondo’s signature, Inter Miami also proved that they now have the pull needed to go toe-to-toe with the biggest teams in soccer to sign anyone.

Barcelona could still sign Redondo one day

At 21, Redondo is at the start of his career and still has a long way to go before he is ready to head to Europe, and Barcelona could still sign the midfielder one day.

Inter Miami might prove to be the right club for the youngster with Redondo seemingly keen to learn from the best in the world in Messi and Busquets.

And for Barcelona, signing Redondo could become a realistic opportunity in the next 18 months, especially if the Inter Miami star develops in the same way many expect the youngster to do so.
