'The problem' – Simon Jordan and Graeme Souness both in agreement that Man Utd talent is 'done' and should leave Old Trafford

Simon Jordan is convinced that one Manchester United star is “done” at Old Trafford and Graeme Souness has suggested that a “proper football club” would have sold him.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has endured a turbulent second season in charge at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils underwhelming in their campaign so far.

The Red Devils’ lacklustre season has left Erik ten Hag’s men without a top-four finish in sight and United will be without Champions League football for next season.

United face an uphill battle in securing any kind of European football, with the Premier League club languishing in eighth place in the league table.

Ten Hag has been under fire for United’s disappointing run of form and lack of consistency, with the Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford shrouded in mystery.

United are making sweeping changes behind the scenes at the Premier League side after Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe captured his minority stake in the club.

The Red Devils could also see a mass clearout of players from the first-team squad, with the likes of Anthony Martial set to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

Simon Jordan talks Man Utd star’s future

Speaking on the Up Front podcast, Simon Jordan has suggested that Erik ten Hag will likely be without one key Manchester United player next season.

Marcus Rashford’s future at the Red Devils remains uncertain, despite signing a new contract with the Premier League club in 2023.

The 26-year-old United forward was in the form of his life in Erik ten Hag’s debut season at Old Trafford, but Rashford has struggled with consistency this season.

Rashford, who is under contract until 2028, has only managed to find the back of the net eight times in 40 appearances across all competitions this season.

The England international, who scored 30 times in the 2022-23 season, has also been reprimanded over his off-field behaviour this season.

Jordan believes that Rashford’s time at Old Trafford is coming to an end and thinks it would be the ‘right’ move for him to leave United.

“I think he’s done,” he said.

“The problem with Marcus Rashford now is that well has been polluted, I think he has to move on as much for himself as potentially for Manchester United.”

Souness agrees with Jordan on Rashford

Graeme Souness echoed Jordan’s sentiments and the Liverpool legend insisted that a “proper football club” would have considered selling Rashford by now.

“When I was a player, no-one was given permission to not track back, you’d sprint forward, and even quicker coming back – no-one was given a pass,” he said.

“I’d say that’s how it has been before my time and even now for the very best teams.

“If you’re at a proper club with proper professionals, you’re doing that in training each day and if you’re not, they’ll come after you. The coach doesn’t even have to say it: that’s what happens at the big clubs.

“This should be hammered into you in the training sessions, what Marcus Rashford showed against Ross Barkley when they played Luton a few weeks ago, means he must’ve been doing that in training.

“If he was doing that at a proper football club, they’d be all over him to the point where there would be fallouts, and if they didn’t learn, they’d think about selling you.”
