Jurgen Klopp reveals mindset shift during final stretch of season

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he is focusing on the "good bits of the season" ahead of his final game as Liverpool manager despite failing to win the Premier League title.

The German has enjoyed nine incredible years at Anfield, winning the UEFA Champions League, a Premier League title and an FA Cup in that time. His reign is set to conclude on Sunday, as Liverpool face their final game of the season at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

While Liverpool have now slipped away from the league title race, and missed out on winning silverware in the Europa League, they did see triumph in the Carabao Cup this season - lifting the trophy after a dramatic 1-0 win over Chelsea in extra-time.

For Klopp, his final season has been more than enough, with the boss now choosing to focus on the positives.

Speaking after his side's thrilling 3-3 draw with Aston Villa on Monday, Klopp said: "I am allowed to see just the good bits of the season. If you carry on then you have to think about what didn't go well and make changes and adjustments of whatever. But that's obviously not me.

"We did what we could. If we could have done better, we probably would have. We are where we are and that's it.

"You can make of it what you want and say it is the story of the season, I don't see it like that. For me the story of the season is the boys showed a really, really good character and a sensational attitude.

"That's why were are here and why we have 79 points, a lot. I know nobody wants to hear that, but being this season the third best team in the league, from where we are coming from, is a statement as well as an improvement with a lot of changes.

"I like it, I'm not over the moon about it, but since a week or two we have to accept we cannot be the best or the second best team in the league. That's a good basis for the future and that's all you can ask for."
