Derby County transfer round-up: Warne eyeing three new signings as 27-goal striker eyed

Derby County are poised to be one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window as Paul Warne prepares for the Championship.

Derby intend on hitting the ground running with their transfer business as a big summer in Derbyshire awaits.

The Rams are yet to announce their released/retained list, but once they do, supporters will have a good idea of where Paul Warne needs to strengthen.

Warne has said he needs something in every position, such is the level of quality in the Championship, but there are a few names currently on their radar. Here we round up all the latest Derby County transfer news and rumours…

Derby County ‘open talks’ to sign Herbie Kane

Derby’s midfield requires serious surgery. Max Bird has departed permanently to Bristol City and Ebou Adams will return to his parent club Cardiff City.

The Rams did prepare a £250,000 bid for Adams a few weeks ago, but the latest name to pop up on their radar is Barnsley midfielder Herbie Kane.

Kane looks set to depart the Tykes upon the expiry of his contract in June and according to Alan Nixon, Derby are set to open talks with the 25-year-old on a free transfer.

The English maestro produced nine goals and six assists in League One last term.

Derby County set sights on Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass

The future of Sheffield Wednesday striker Josh Windass is up in the air at the moment.

Although he’s in talks over a new deal in S6, there is emerging interest from several Championship clubs, including Stoke City, Hull City, West Brom and the Rams.

As it stands, there is no verdict on whether he’ll remain at Hillsborough this summer, but if does leave, a queue of second-tier sides will be looking to snap him up.

Windass scored six goals in 25 outings last term as the Owls pulled off one of the greatest escapes in Championship history.

Derby considering move for Charlton striker Alfie May

Derby are looking to bolster their front line with quality. In League One last term the Rams scored the joint-fewest goals of teams that finished in the top six.

It’s an area they must improve to stay afloat in the second tier as links to Charlton Athletic striker Alfie May have recently emerged.

May finished as the division’s top scorer with 27 goals and such a tally has, of course, attracted interest from Derby.

Keep an eye on all of the latest Derby transfer news as it appears the Rams are looking to kickstart their business early in preparation for the Championship.
