Following a frustrating first half, Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark got the support of one of her teammates most likely to understand the immense pressure to perform that she’s under.
Former No. 1 overall pick Aliyah Boston grabbed Clark and had a quick word or two as the pair was headed to the locker room at halftime.
Boston appeared to calm Clark down a bit, and Clark eventually offered a high-five toward the end of their brief chat. Boston had previously chimed in on what it would take for Clark to settle in and how her teammates could be of service.
“We just talk to her, we encourage her,” Boston said on the broadcast. “Everyone knows the type of player Caitlin is and the type of energy that surrounds her, so we just want to continue to bring that and let her know, ‘Hey, just be you.'”
After overcoming some early foul trouble in the first quarter, Caitlin Clark seemed to settle in midway through the second quarter.
She scored her first WNBA points on a driving layup to the rim, then began to heat up as a shooter during the middle portion of the game. With about three minutes to go in the third quarter, Clark had 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the floor, which included a 2-of-7 mark from 3-point range.
Clark, of course, has all eyes on her after becoming one of the most popular players in women’s basketball history.
She gained that popularity in part because of her ability to score at will from anywhere on the floor. She took down the NCAA all-time marks for career scoring, both men’s and women’s, during her final season with the Hawkeyes.
Caitlin Clark also led Iowa to the national championship game in back-to-back seasons.
During her four seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Clark averaged 28.4 points per game, which peaked during her senior season with 31.6 ppg. Thanks to her sharpshooting, she became the collegiate men’s and women’s all-time leading scorer in her 130th career game.
