Tyrone Mings praised for ‘class act’ at Aston Villa end of season awards celebrations

Tyrone Mings has been praised for the classy thing he did following Aston Villa’s Champions League qualification.

Villa were having their end of season awards night on Tuesday, which coincided with Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Manchester City.

Spurs lost 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side, ensuring that Villa are now guaranteed a spot in next season’s Champions League.

The Villans were unable to get the job done on Monday night at Villa Park in front of their own supporters, but were fortunate enough to all be in one place to celebrate their remarkable achievement.

Tyrone Mings does not let John McGinn forget pivotal player on Champions League journey

John McGinn has been Villa’s captain for this season since Tyrone Mings suffered an ACL injury on the opening day of the Premier League season which has kept him out ever since.

The pair took to the stage following the confirmation of their Champions League qualification, where McGinn made a speech to a raucous crowd at the awards.

McGinn and Mings have been part of an extraordinary journey which McGinn reminded fans began in the Championship six years ago.

McGinn started his speech by telling the audience that it was been a “mental season”, before saying: “Obviously, I’ve brought Tyrone up here. We were at the club in the Championship, us two and baby Jacob (Ramsey) were the only three remaining.”

It was here that Mings showed his class, as he can be seen saying to McGinn “And Kortney (Hause), and Kortney” before McGinn quickly adds: “And Kortney obviously, so there’s four of us tonight who were part of that Championship team that got promoted.”

The Scot went onto to talk more about the journey they have been on as a club and group of players, saying: “We obviously got into the Premier League. We were seven points behind with four games to play – we managed to stay in the league.”

“We kept building and thankfully we’ve achieved something we haven’t in 40 years.”

Kortney Hause played a crucial role as Villa were promoted to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs in 2019.

The defender joined the club on loan on January of that season and made 12 appearances, including a cameo in the play-off final triumph over Derby County.

The 28-year-old has suffered a torrid time with injuries – something Mings knows all about – and has not played a minute of football since a knee injury he picked up whilst on loan at Watford in September 2022.

Therefore, it would likely have meant a great deal to Hause that Mings remembered his contribution and made sure he was included in McGinn’s speech for the role he played in the journey.

Fans were quick to praise Mings for such a nice touch in response to the official Aston Villa ‘X’ account posting the speech.

One fan responded: “Testament to what a great man Tyrone Mings is that he reminded McGinn to remember Hause too.”

Another commented: “Mings – love him to remember Kortney there. Literally MASSIVE in the play-off final.”

One fan simply put: “Kudos to TM (Mings) for reminding him.”

Fans were quick to point out Mings’ own contribution on the pitch to the journey from the Championship to the Champions League too, as one fan posted: “I’m so happy Mings was part of it tonight. We wouldn’t be here without him.”

Whilst another made a similar statement: “Great to see Mings up there. Such a key part in building the club up to this point.”

With Champions League secured, it is important not to forget the players that have paved the way for such an achievement to be possible.

Hause’s future at the club is uncertain, but Mings reminding everyone of his contribution was an incredible way to highlight his legacy.
