Report: Arsenal now want to sign 'incredible' player who had an argument about Gabriel Martinelli last week

The transfer window is just around the corner and Arsenal are being linked with plenty of potential new signings.

The Gunners are being linked with a plethora of new midfielders and strikers, and now, they have been linked with one of Europe’s top right-backs.

Indeed, according to Bild, Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong.

Arsenal interested in Jeremie Frimpong

Bild report that Frimpong is leaning towards leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer, and he can leave for €40m (£35m) due to a release clause.

Frimpong has been a revelation for Xabi Alonso’s side this season, playing a key role in his advanced wing-back role.

Interestingly, just last week Frimpong got into a bit of an argument about one Arsenal player.

Speaking to Goal, Frimpong argued about Gabriel Martinelli and whether he’s better than Jeremy Doku.

“Jeremy Doku, Luis Diaz or Martinelli? Frimpong was asked.

“I’d go with Jeremy Doku me you know,” Frimpong said.

“Martinelli is better than Doku,” The host replied.

“Who’s better one against one? Answer the question?” Frimpong said.

“I think Martinelli is less predictable than Doku, so Martinelli,” The host replied.

“That is ridiculous, who is stopping him (Doku). I’m talking one against one. We will talk off-camera. To be fair, When it comes to goals, it’s Martinelli,” Frimpong concluded.

Frimpong seems to rate Doku higher than Martinelli, and that may be a topic of conversation should the pair soon become teammates.

Jeremie Frimpong wouldn’t suit Arsenal

As brilliant a player as Frimpong is, it’s hard to say that he would be the right sort of fit for Arsenal.

The Gunners’ full-backs aren’t exactly the most expansive. After all, they’ve operated most of this season with a back four made up of a quartet of players who are naturally centre-backs.

A lot of the time, Frimpong looks more like a winger than he does a right-back, and, for that reason, it’s hard to see how he’d fit in at Arsenal.

This would be an intriguing signing for many reasons, but, as a tactical fit, this would be a serious mismatch unless Mikel Arteta completely changed his style.

Frimpong is an ‘incredible’ player, but a move to Arsenal doesn’t seem like a logical next step for the Dutchman.
