Exclusive: Wolves are in 'pole position' to sign 17-goal striker who has been likened to Jermain Defoe

TBR Football understands Wolverhampton Wanderers are in pole position to land Che Adams on a free transfer this summer.

A host of clubs looked at the Scottish international in January but Southampton opted to keep him to bolster their promotion push.

Now, a number of clubs have held talks with Adams but TBR has been told that Wolves are confident of finalising a deal.

Che Adams set on his decision to leave Southampton

TBR is told that even promotion back to the Premier League with Southampton would not be enough to keep him at St Mary’s.

After almost five years on the South Coast, he is ready to embark on a new journey and looks set to return to the Midlands, where he grew up.

Adams was born in Leicester, which resides just 42 miles from Wolverhampton, so perhaps that was in his thinking – to move closer to his family.

Che Adams’ statistics

The powerful frontman, whose instinctive finishing has drawn similarities to Jermain Defoe, has enjoyed a productive season in the Championship.

The 25-cap Scotland international has netted 17 goals across all competitions whilst laying on six assists for Russell Martin’s side.

He’s shown a lot more to his game than just goals, with FBref data ranking him in the top four per cent for progressive passes per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe.

So, all things considered, he’d be a fantastic addition to Wolves’ attack, providing a different profile of striker.
