Mauricio Pochettino reveals Chelsea transfer dealings already underway

By Katie Catherall

Mauricio Pochettino is preparing for a summer of business after revealing that some players wish to depart the Stamford Bridge club.

The current campaign is just days away from coming to a close, turning everyone's attention to the upcoming transfer window. Chelsea are expected to engage in business once again this summer, with players joining and leaving Pochettino's side.

The Argentine boss has begun to think about his transfer plans, and will look to consider missing players in his blueprints.

Currently, just four players are ruled out, a number that marks the Blues' smallest injury list since the start of the season. However, the club have been forced to deal with some intense ailments recently, with Romeo Lavia having played just once since making his £55m move and 2022 arrival Wesley Fofana yet to make an appearance for the club this season.

Pochettino has considered these issues, and will look to keep players at the club if possible.

Speaking on his summer plans, the Blues boss said: "Now is going to start a period where players want to leave, maybe some offers arrive or players that we want to add to the squad. Of course, we have already started to work on this.

"In the case of Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku and Reece James. We need to pay attention in the way we need to provide them with a possibility to be fit. Now it is not only a challenge to have them fit now, but in the way we manage for a whole season so there are no setbacks again. Of course, in football you always need to take some risks but they have the quality to take some risks.

"[Fofana] is doing well, very positive, we were talking yesterday and hope he can be available to be part of the group."

Chelsea have just two games left this season and currently sit seventh, behind Newcastle United on goal difference alone. The firsto f those fixtures comes against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night, before hosting Bournemouth on the final day at the weekend.
