'Quite incredible': Michael Owen says Man City have a player who is simply 'undefendable' at times

Manchester City defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Tuesday night and after the game, Michael Owen claimed one player is simply ‘undefendable’ at times.

Pep Guardiola‘s side went top of the table by two points after winning their game in hand against Spurs.

It was a nervy affair for the most part, and City were far from their best down in north London.

But the result was the only thing that was ever going to matter, and now one more win on Sunday against West Ham United will seal the deal.

It was Erling Haaland who grabbed both goals for City against Spurs, tapping in a wonderful Kevin De Bruyne cross and then scoring from the penalty spot.

It moved him on to 27 Premier League goals for the season, and former striker Michael Owen was left in awe of the City number nine after Tuesday night’s game…

City struggled against Spurs for the first two-thirds of the game, as Arsenal fans started to get excited on social media.

The rhythm just wasn’t there, and Guardiola cut a frustrated figure on the touchline.

But it took two big guns to combine for City to break the deadlock, with De Bruyne finding his partner-in-crime in the six-yard box.

Haaland would then lash home a penalty to seal the win, stunning Gary Neville with the power he generated.

Michael Owen was on punditry duty for Premier League Productions and could not hide how impressed he was with the Norwegian’s prowess.

He said: “It’s quite incredible. It was looking like quite a tight race for the Golden Boot this season, and all of a sudden he has surged clear and now it looks like a procession.

“He’s got attributes that sometimes you just simply can’t defend against. If you hang one up to that back post, then what can you do? He’s so big and so powerful, and such a good header of the ball. He’s got so many strings to his bow and sometimes, he’s undefendable.”

What a player

Haaland had one tap-in against Spurs and then a penalty, so we didn’t really see him being ‘undefendable’ too much.

But Owen’s verdict still rings true, with Haaland thriving in many other games this season and last.

His magnificent header against Wolves was an extraordinary show of athleticism, and he gave Max Kilman a torrid time at the Etihad.

We also saw when Everton went to the Etihad when he manhandled Jarrad Branthwaite before scoring.

Haaland is just the ultimate nightmare for a centre-back and sometimes, there is simply nothing you can do to stop him from scoring.
