‘Lovely’: Adam Armstrong says £10m Leeds player has an incredible left foot

Adam Armstrong has claimed that one Leeds United player has the best left foot in the Championship.

Speaking to Football Daily, Armstrong, alongside Che Adams was tasked with building an ultimate striker made up of a number of attributes from Championship players.

Adams chose Kelechi Iheanacho for his shooting ability off his left foot, but according to Armstrong, Leeds’ Joel Piroe has the best left peg in the league.

Armstrong spoke about the £10m Leeds striker.

“I’ll go for Joel Piroe at Leeds. I played against him when he was at Swansea, he has a lovely left foot so that’s the reason I went for him,” Armstrong said.

Joel Piroe is a good finisher

Joel Piroe hasn’t quite had the impact expected of him at Leeds this season. In fact, he’s not even a guaranteed started at Elland Road.

However, when he does get a chance in front of goal, he’ll usually put it away.

Piroe has netted 13 league goals this term, and most of those have been finished with that left foot.

Say what you will about his all-round game, but his finishing has been solid for most of this season. In fact, he’s one of few players in the Championship who are actually outperforming their expected goals tally – which, granted, isn’t the best of metrics.

Piroe knows where the back of the net is, and with a huge game against Norwich City coming up on Thursday evening, the Dutchman’s ability to convert chances may be the difference between a trip to Wembley or another season in the Championship.

Ironically, it may be Armstrong’s Southampton who Leeds face in the playoff final, and Piroe’s left foot could be a difference maker in that game after this praise from the Southampton star.
