Taylor Swift is sending a 'secret message' about her next album, say fans

A fan theory has emerged in the wake of Taylor Swift wearing a string of different t-shirts during performances of the song 22.

Never underestimate the ability of the Swifties to solve a mystery. The Taylor Swift fandom is one of the most widespread and dedicated on the planet, and the release of her new album The Tortured Poets Department helped spur on more fan theories than perhaps any of her previous records. Now that the Eras Tour has resumed, on the other hand, eagle-eyed audiences have raised a compelling theory that may point to an album fans have been waiting years for.

Fan theory on Taylor Swift ’22’ Eras tour t-shirts points to Reputation ‘Taylor’s Version’

Tay embarked on the Eras Tour in March 2023 and recently resumed the record-breaking string of dates after a brief hiatus, set to conclude the tour in December 2024. It’s become a tour tradition for her to wear a custom T-shirt while performing the song 22 from her album Red. However, fans have spotted that the t-shirts during the song’s performance have begun to display different lyrics and, potentially, a code to be deciphered.

Floating the theory on TikTok, a fan shared images and said: “So, Taylor has been wearing new and different 22 shirts each night in Paris with words in red.” The first slide shows her wearing a T-shirt with the words “This Is Not Taylor’s Version” printed on the front. The words “Is Not” are highlighted in red.

During her second night in Paris, the t-shirt instead read: “I Bet You Think About Me,” with the “Me” in red. The words are taken from the song of the same name, also from Red. The fourth night? “I Knew You Were Trouble,” with “Trouble” in red.

The post from Repunation breaks the theory down on the final slide, saying that the highlighted words so far spell “Is Not Me A Lot Trouble”.

They explain: “Unscrambling this we can get ‘Re[]utation Stolen []lb[]m.’ We’re just missing the P, A, & U. What words could she next use for her 22 set shirt to fill in those missing letters?”

A fan replied: “This was my theory all along. I feel it’s the last Wembley show she’ll announce Rep!”

Reputation ‘Taylor’s Version’ has already been teased this year

When record executive Scooter Braun purchased Big Machine Records, he came into control of Tay’s back catalog. So, she began to re-release her albums as ‘Taylor’s Versions’, reclaiming ownership of her music.

The only albums yet to receive the treatment are her self-titled and Reputation, hence the recent fan theory.

Reputation ‘Taylor’s Version’ was teased earlier this year, the song Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version) providing a soundtrack to the trailer for the docuseries The Dynasty: New England Patriots.

Fans noticed immediately that the song was slightly different from the one featured on the standard album, helping fuel the fire of theories it would be released soon.

With the belief that Tay is priming to make the announcement of the album’s re-release during an upcoming Eras Tour show, fans are excited to relive the era all over again.
